CREATING AN INCLUSIVITY IN EDUCATION-THE REAL CHALLENGE OF NEP 2020 IN SWARAJ INDIA
India is one of the few nations in the world where the Ministry of Human Resource Development is not responsible for the education of children with special needs. Generally speaking, it falls within the purview of the Omnibus Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, whose main objective is rehabilitation rather than education. The issue of education for children with disabilities continues to be unnoticeable, hidden from the public, and a private concern for families and NGOs to handle. In truth, it still does not include education as part of its objective. Governmental organizations and mainstream institutions need to wake up to the fact that segregating kids with special needs is morally wrong and infringes on their rights. Indeed, there is no other way to educate the 36 million children with disabilities. Most Indians—78%—live in rural regions without access to special education facilities. To meet the requirements of all children in every community, inclusive schools must be established, and both the central and state governments must provide teachers with the necessary training to run inclusive classrooms.
Inclusive education involves enhancing the educational system's ability to connect with all students. It entails changing school culture, rules, and procedures so that they can adapt to the diversity of pupils in the affected area. It is one of the best strategies we have for fostering an accepting and tolerant society. The goal of inclusive education is to ensure social justice by making education accessible to all people, regardless of their disabilities. Experts in inclusive education are pushing for the inclusion of children with special needs in regular classrooms to avoid the option of segregation and keeping them restricted within the walls of special schools. Only then can we assert that equal opportunity, particularly in education, is being provided. However, several barriers and difficulties must be overcome for inclusive education in India to succeed.
